Technically Speaking -- Lamination
|
Since solvent inkjet media was primarily designed for outdoor use, many signmakers consider overlaminates an unne cessary cost. While that logic may hold for certain short-term applications, there are many more times when the added cost is more than justified. For example:
- Lamination protects fragile printed images against physical degradation resulting from abrasions, moisture, and dirt. It can also significantly extend the life of your inks in the face of harsh UV exposure (sunlight).
- Lamination makes it easy to clean the surface of the print
- Lamination can be used to change the creative effect of the image. For example, you can use a glossy laminating film to add “pop” to your printed image, or a matte film to reduce unwanted glare for POP applications.
- By using ORAGUARD® laminating films with matching ORAJET® digital media, you can qualify for protection under the ORALIFE™ Component System Warranty, providing up to seven years of guaranteed performance for your printed images.
Additional Lamination Tips
- Make sure the printed image is free of dust, dirt or any chemical that may interfere with proper adhesion of the laminating film.
- Always allow time for the ink to cure before applying the laminating film -- at least twenty-four (24) hours if possible. Failure to do so can cause the outgassing solvents from the inks to become trapped in the film or its adhesive layer, leading to difficulty in application.
The ORALIFE® Component System (OCS) warranty from ORACAL USA includes specially matched media and laminates to fit almost any graphic application where a pressure sensitive adhesive is needed. Combined with your approved wide-format inkjet printer and corresponding OEM ink sets, the OCS warranty can help you achieve an unrivaled level of performance and guaranteed reliability for your outdoor digital prints.
